Is God real? How do we know the Bible is true? Why did God create natural disasters? Kids have big questions about God and His creation. This devotional points them toward the answers in ways they can understand.
Engaging and empowering, each of the 100 devotions in Moments with God for Kids begins with a key verse from the Bible to introduce that day’s big question and answer, then invites them to think deeper about what they’ve learned and how they can share it. Plus, they’ll learn kid-friendly definitions of words and concepts like “omnipresence,” “canon,” and “repentance” that will grow their knowledge of God and His work in the world.
This devotional is organized into categories, based on topics kids wonder about most often: Questions About God, Questions About Creation, Questions About Sin and Salvation, Questions About the Bible, Questions About You and God, Questions About Suffering, Questions About Angels, Questions About Heaven and Hell. Here’s an excerpt to give you a taste of what your kids will experience when they read this devotional:
Is it okay to sin if God is just going to forgive me anyway?
“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? (Romans 6:1-2)”
Imagine you have a dog who is so loyal to you, he follows you everywhere. He loves to be with you, he protects you, he sleeps next to you at night, and there’s nothing you could ever do to change his undying devotion to you. This dog is your best friend for life.
You love your dog, too, and he is a truly special companion. But sometimes you feel tempted to kick him. Not because he deserves it, and not because you’re mad at your dog or dislike him in any way; but just because kicking him seems like fun. And the crazy part is, you know your dog loves you SO much, he will forgive you for kicking him! Every time!
Does that make it alright to kick the dog?
No! Not at all! What kind of person would willingly kick a loyal, loving, harmless dog?
Ah. We all would—so to speak.
Because kicking that dog is kind of like sinning against God. We love God; He’s the best friend we’ll ever have. We know He loves us SO much that He will forgive every sin we ever commit. So even though our sin hurts God, we choose to sin anyway.
If you are a Christian, sin will be tempting, but it should never be acceptable to your heart. To love Jesus is to feel regret over your sin, and to desire to break free from it, rather than indulging in it. That is the mark of a true believer!
Think About This!
- Name someone you love a great deal. How does it make you feel when you hurt that person? How do you imagine God feels when we disobey Him?
- The Bible talks a lot about “dying to sin.” What does that mean to you?
Love Because: How to Change the World One Blessing at a Time
A Fresh, Down-to-Earth Look on Living and Loving Well
Available through Amazon.
If asked, most of us want to make a difference, to live and love generously. But we get caught in the crazy rush of household routines, work demands, cranky attitudes, difficult people, exhaustion, worry, and pride, and once again we fail to love the people around us at all—let alone well. We too easily default to focusing more on self than on others, on receiving more than giving, in ways we don’t even recognize. We dream of reaching out. We just . . . forget. Or don’t have the energy.
Using relatable stories, discussion questions, and careful application of God’s Word, Love Because gives you the inspiration and practical tips and ideas you need to see the opportunities around you, to reach out, to live generously, and to love others bravely and selflessly. To bless and be blessed is to actualize the joy of Christ—and to propel love forward.
