One of the perks of blogging is getting the chance to meet fellow authors, read their books, and share them with all of you! Today I’m giving away a copy of a new Zonderkidz picture book for girls called Love Letters from God: Bible Stories for a Girl’s Heart, written by Glenys Nellist and illustrated by Rachel Clowes.
The fourth book in a series, Love Letters from God retells 14 Bible stories featuring female characters, from Eve (Genesis 3) to Deborah (Judges 4 and 5) to Martha (Luke 10) and many more. Each story includes a lift-the-flap message or “love letter” written as a personal note of encouragement from God Himself.
This book is beautifully illustrated with warm, bright colors and symbols that appeal to many girls, such as flowers, hearts and stars. Each story is narrated as an exciting historical tale while staying true to the original scripture. You can watch a video of Glenys reading one of the stories, “The Trusting Girl,” on her YouTube channel.
Although this is a picture book, I’d recommend it for a wide age range, from preschool through tween. It’s a great read-to-me resource for younger kids, or a read-on-my-own option for older girls. My ten-year-old read it and offered her thoughts:
“It was a really nice idea to write a book based on stories about girls in the Bible. It’s basically teaching girls examples of godly behavior straight from the Bible. I especially liked the love letters from God written on separate flaps. They were written like prayers.”
Today Zonderkidz is graciously giving away one copy of Love Letters From God: Bible Stories for a Girl’s Heart. To enter to win, just leave a comment on my Facebook page telling us your favorite female Bible figure and why.
